[17:17] <@EvilNastyGM> For one reason or another you all have wound up on a rock of a planet called Dinom.

LIBRARY DATA: DINOM-1D300535A - Dinom is a small (4800 kilometer diameter) airless world in far orbit around the central star of the Dinom system. Gravity is about 0.20 gravities. Dinom's star is a very large, very bright giant visible throughout the subsector, and would not normally have planets. Dinom itself is a rogue planet originally a satellite of the system's gas giant. It is now trapped in the trojan position of that gas giant, and trails the giant in its orbit around the star.

Dinom's polar axis extends towards the central star (and will for another two hundered years); the northern hemisphere is in constant light, while the southern is in constant night. When in this state, Dinom's atmosphere freezes on to the "Cold Face", and the "Bright Face" is an airless ball of rock.

Dinom's population of 230,000 is concentrated in three large cities (names: Rhylan, Medianne, and Napan) which house ore-processing centers. Each city is governed by a board of directors answering to the shareholder-owners (who number about 10 per city) of the ore-processing centers. Token representation for nonshareholders is also provided. The three cities send representatives to Rhylan for the World Board, which also has representation (about 10%) for the non-city dwellers. The Board is responsible for interstellar relations, system defense, industrial production, and Imperial contact.

EvilNastyGM> After assessing your situations you've all teamed up and joined the starship Lucky Strike as part of it's crew run by captain Nevka Bingham and her husband Caleb. Each have your own reason for hitching up. Last session was basically introductions and character development. Now you're a crew and you're looking for a job.....

[17:20] <+Nevka_Bingham> and cargo!
[17:21] <@EvilNastyGM> You're all aboard the Lucky Strike at the time getting situated
[17:21] * +Thomas_J_Atkins has settled in, starting his job as steward and listing what resources are available.
[17:22] * +Nevka_Bingham will start perusing the net, looking for cargo to haul.
[17:23] * +SamuraiHanson has settled in, and is in the cockpit, familiarizing himself with this particular ship.
[17:26] <@EvilNastyGM> Jobs and cargo seem scarce right now. You do have a communication from a Sebastian Johan from a Tukera lines who wishes to speak with you about a possible job.
[17:27] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Well, hopefully he's got something better than hauling air."
[17:27] * +Nevka_Bingham will set up a meeting.
[17:29] <@EvilNastyGM> “Captain Bingham, My name is Sebastian Johan from Tukera lines. I have a proposition for you. If interested please call 555-1010. Thanks you for your time.”
[17:30] * +Nevka_Bingham dials the connection. "Ser Johan? This is Captain Bingham of the Lucky Strike. You said you had a proposition for my ship?"
[17:31] * +Thomas_J_Atkins is done in the cargo hold and moves to check the systems via the on-board computer up on the bridge.
[17:31] <@EvilNastyGM> ##Good evening Captain. Thank you for responding so quickly. Yes, I have a propisition for you. Could we set up a meeting?##
[17:32] * +SamuraiHanson is still on the bridge, checking on the ship's maintenance logs.
[17:33] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Ah, Mister Samurai, how are things here?"
[17:34] <+SamuraiHanson> "Looking fine, we'll be flying good once we have somewhere to go. How are the buttles?"
[17:35] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Yes, would tonight be acceptable? At the Starport eatery?"
[17:36] <@EvilNastyGM> ##I'm borrowing an office from the local mining consortium. Could we meet at say 5PM star port office, Dinom mining office 223?" ##
[17:36] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "For a ship that size, acceptable. We have no defenses, fuels capacity for a single jump, food and air for months and quite a decend cargo capacity. I came here to verify the status of the ships' computer."
[17:37] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Yes, I can meet you there. What time?"
[17:37] <@EvilNastyGM> ##5 PM would work nicely##
[17:37] <+SamuraiHanson> "S'pose we can't hope for too much more, we'll just have to hope that our employer works mostly legal."
[17:38] <+Nevka_Bingham> "I'll see you at five then."
[17:38] <@EvilNastyGM> ##Excellent. See you then##
[17:38] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "That would be of great help when dealing with port autorities. But from what I've seen, the Binghams appears to be the good hearted sort."
[17:39] * +Thomas_J_Atkins goes on the computer, checking the systems and O/S responses and such
[17:39] <@EvilNastyGM> Time is 0900
[17:39] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> !roll 2d6+0 computer
[17:39] <@Dicenator> Thomas_J_Atkins, computer: 8:8+0
[17:39] <@EvilNastyGM> (anything anyone wants to do?))
[17:39] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((keeping taking tabs on the ship and its' systems, i.e my work))
[17:40] <@EvilNastyGM> Computer systems seem functional. Nothing fancy.
[17:40] * +Nevka_Bingham checks on the crew. "Well, I may have a lead on a paying job that will get us out of atmo. We'll see tonight.”
[17:41] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Ah, excellent news. I have compiled our resources and verified the ship's systems. All seems in fonctionnable state, and we have enough resources for a month's wort of travel."
[17:42] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Well hopefully whatever Ser Johan wants to hire us for won't take that long."
[17:42] <@EvilNastyGM> Thomas and Samurai can each roll 2d6 for their tinkering
[17:42] <+SamuraiHanson> !roll 2d6
[17:42] <@Dicenator> SamuraiHanson: 6
[17:43] <@EvilNastyGM> ((brb coffee))
[17:44] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> !roll 2d6
[17:44] <@Dicenator> Thomas_J_Atkins: 10
[17:46] * +Thomas_J_Atkins smkoes his large pipe after all work is completed.
[17:47] <@EvilNastyGM> Thomas you check the ships basic systems, all seem a little dated but in working order.
[17:48] <@EvilNastyGM> Samurai you do a review of the bridge. It's not too different from your Scout ship just a little bigger. There's nothing here that you think will be too difficult to master. The day goes by slowly if not a little boring
[17:48] * +Thomas_J_Atkins talks a little with Caleb as well, the other half of his boss
[17:49] <@EvilNastyGM> ((if there's nothing specific any of you want to do I'll jump to the meeting))
[17:49] <+SamuraiHanson> ((go for it))
[17:50] <@EvilNastyGM> 1600 hrs rolls around.
[17:51] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Would you require our presence there Nevka?"
[17:52] <+SamuraiHanson> "We'd be downright glad to walk 'round a bit if you need some more hands."
[17:53] <+Nevka_Bingham> "He's not a mobster so I doubt it. But I'll keep my comm on just in case."
[17:54] <+SamuraiHanson> "Fine, we'll be here if you call."
[17:55] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Thanks."
[17:56] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Only natural of us to be of help."
[17:57] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "I presume it will be passengers as well, perhaps even cargo. I will have the other rooms and the cryo-system cleaned up and ready."
[17:58] * +SamuraiHanson whispers under his breath, "Besides, it looks bad to the next employer when the previous gets shot at and you didn't."
[17:58] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Thanks. I hope it's cargo. Who knows, maybe he wants us to ferry some scientists on the cheap."
[17:58] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Well, Tukera Lines is the owner of the ship that brought me here."
[17:59] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "After a rather stressful jump miscalculation."
[18:00] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Good to know."
[18:00] * +Nevka_Bingham will head to the meeting
[18:00] <+SamuraiHanson> "A miscalculation? Or they just lied about their real destination. The navcomps these days are just about fool proof, but somebody is always done gone inventing a better fool."
[18:01] * +SamuraiHanson heads off with Thomas to get the cryo pods ready.
[18:02] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Well, we were on route to Regina, until the ship was violently shaken, bulkeheads closing, alarms ringing, until we were informed of a emergency and a jump exit in the Dinom system."
[18:03] <@EvilNastyGM> Nevka heads to the office complex of the starport. People are leaving the offices being the end of the normal work shift. You hit a lift get off at floor 2 and find office 223.
[18:03] * +Thomas_J_Atkins checks the cryo-systems, getting them warmed up, in case of use.
[18:03] <@EvilNastyGM> ((do you want to do this PM or just say you will relay the info when you get back))
[18:03] <+Nevka_Bingham> ((I'll relay it when I get back. Besides, I'm leaving my radio open so they can hear))
[18:05] <+SamuraiHanson> "Sounds like you were lucky to get out. I'll do my best to make sure it doesn't happen again on your next jump."
[18:06] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "That would be quite thoughtful of you, yes."
[18:06] <@EvilNastyGM> Nevka enters the office doors. There's a small reception area that's empty and a door leading out of the room you assume going to the main office. Before you can get to the door a man steps out. He's dressed in a nice grey suit, blue shirt and a black tie with what looks like stars on it. He' clean shaven with slicked back black hair and piecing blue eyes. He smiles when he sees you and extends a hand. "Captain Bingham I presume?"
[18:06] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Now, perhaps you can assist me in preparing the other rooms for our possible guests, hm?"
[18:07] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Ser Johan?”
[18:08] <+SamuraiHanson> "Sure sure, but if you do want some excitement on our next trip, just ask. Not that I'm judgin' or anything." Samurai says as he's rummaging lockers and storage compartments getting sheets out and hose hookups.
[18:09] <+SamuraiHanson> "Just how many o'these are we setting up anyway?"
[18:10] * +Nevka_Bingham will shake his hand. "Captain Bingham of the Lucky Strike."
<@EvilNastyGM> (Sebastian) "Well met Captain, Sebastian Johan of Tukera Lines. If you will we can talk in the office.” He leads you into the back office.
[18:11] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Let's start with 4."
[18:11] * +Nevka_Bingham follows.
[18:11] <@EvilNastyGM> (Sebastian) "Can I offer you a drink. The usual inhabitant of this office has a sizable bar."
[18:11] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "And what do you mean by excitment? Making loops and barrelrolls?"
[18:12] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Something mild, thank you."
[18:12] * +SamuraiHanson gets out the proper number of materials and watches Thomas set up the first bed before moving on to the next one. "Loops, barrelrolls, emergency stops, course alterations at full impulse, you name it."

[18:13] * @Sebastian` hands you a drink. "Please sit"
[18:15] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Yes well, I was never one for flying in space, what with the grav generator in place. But some atmospheric flying can always be interesting for some."
[18:16] <+SamuraiHanson> "I could put our hyperjump course a little too close to a gravity well if you're really keen, that'll really put a smile on your face."
[18:18] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Let's not play too much with other people's property now."
[18:18] <+SamuraiHanson> "Probably smart, not too fun, but smart."
[18:18] * +Nevka_Bingham will sip her drink, waiting for the offer
[18:20] * +Thomas_J_Atkins completes the four rooms with Samurai "Well, now that's completed, I'd better make ready with supper, almost 1830."
[18:21] <@Sebastian`> "As we discussed briefly on the phone, I represent Tukera Lines. We run a fleet of small crafts in the area ferrying passengers between various destinations. Recently we had a craft, the Sunburst, misjump and land here on Dinom...."
[18:21] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Yes, I'd heard of that."
[18:22] * +SamuraiHanson heads down to the galley and sips a cup of some mild stimulant
[18:23] * +Thomas_J_Atkins gets the meal ready for the crew and himself.
[18:23] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((not the generic dark liquid?))
[18:24] <@Sebastian`> ...."The ships jump drive was destroyed in the mishap and unfortunately Dinom lacks the resources to fix the liner. My company wants to know if you and your ship would be interested in taking our passengers to Dinomn then continuing to one of our ship yards on Ghandi...."
[18:25] <+SamuraiHanson> ((yeah, it was generic and dark))
[18:25] <+Nevka_Bingham> "And pick up the parts you need to repair the Sunburst?"
[18:25] <@Sebastian`> "At Dinomn you will drop the passengers off and they will be picked up by another liner we have contracted to take them to Regina. As for Ghandi we have a drive available that we wish for you to return to Dinom with."
[18:26] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Standard rates for passenger shipment and cargo transfer?"
[18:28] * +Thomas_J_Atkins smokes his pipe after supper, cleaning up after he is done.
<@Sebastian`> You feel like you have the upper hand in this deal. From experience, you know that resources are scarce and his ship could be here a while if you don't help.)
[18:30] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Tukera must have some kind of emergency expense fund you can access. This isn't exactly a high traffic port."
[18:30] * @Sebastian` studies you.
[18:31] <@Sebastian`> "It is why I request your help. Your ship will be tied up for a month. We will provide you with standard fare for each passenger plus 250,000 credits for the rental of your ship"
[18:32] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Half now, half on return with the parts?"
[18:32] <@Sebastian`> "I will require a stateroom as well."
[18:32] <@Sebastian`> "We'll pay for the passage and the remainder upon completeion."
[18:33] <+Nevka_Bingham> "So you're coming with us then. How many passengers?"
[18:33] <@Sebastian`> "19, 20 including myself"
[18:33] <@Sebastian`> “So 14 rooms will be required. Do you have the space?"
[18:34] <+SamuraiHanson> ((We have the radio on, listening to the conversation?))
[18:34] <+Nevka_Bingham> ((yes))
[18:34] <@Sebastian`> "More importantly, can you do jump 4?"
[18:35] <+Nevka_Bingham> "In a single jump? No."
[18:35] <@Sebastian`> "That’s how far Ghandi is."
[18:35] * +SamuraiHanson throws Thomas a questioning look, "Time to go set up some more cryopods, I guess."
[18:35] <@Sebastian`> "It lies in the middle of the Rift"
[18:37] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "And more rooms in case we get warm passengers."
[18:37] * +Nevka_Bingham does some astrography. I can get there in...ten jumps. Two, if we jump into empty space and carry a reserve tank."
[18:39] * +Thomas_J_Atkins gets to it.
[18:39] <@Sebastian`> "That would not be acceptable. The return would take 20 weeks"
[18:40] * +SamuraiHanson tags along and helps Thomas as best he can without screwing things up too badly.
[18:41] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "I'm not an expert, but culdn't we simply carry more reserve fuel and return in two jumps as well?"
[18:41] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Like I said, if I can get external fuel bladders for both ends of the jump, I can do a double jump into deep space and it would only take a total of six weeks, counting the passenger dropoff."
[18:42] <+Nevka_Bingham> ((Yes, but the extra fuel would need to be in an external tank drained and jettisoned before the first Jump, iirc))
[18:43] <@Sebastian`> "The passenger drop is a simple jump one that should take a week and a day for unloading. Ghandi is four from there and four back to Dinom, so realistically it should take 4 weeks."
[18:43] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((So we can always ask for him to pay for that, and then we'll have to get those installed..)
[18:44] <+Nevka_Bingham> "The Strike is a Jump 2 ship."
[18:46] * +Thomas_J_Atkins warns the twins about the possible bunch of people coming onboard.
[18:47] <+Nevka_Bingham> the twins are reading mechanical engineering books with their father. (Or, rather he's teaching them to read using those)
[18:47] * +Thomas_J_Atkins warns everyone then.
[18:53] <@Sebastian`> "Well I can tell you there are ways to get around this but if you accept the job the risk and expense will be yours."
[18:54] <+Nevka_Bingham> "All right Ser Johan, I'm willing to accept."
[18:54] * @Sebastian` looks a little surprised of your quick acceptance.
[18:55] <@Sebastian`> "Very well. Can you be ready in 2days?"
[18:55] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((we lack the rooms, no?))
[18:55] <@Sebastian`> (you have six rooms))
[18:55] <@Sebastian`> ((plus the crews))
[18:56] <+Nevka_Bingham> Nevka retruns to the ship. ((Seriously, the guy has to know what the ship is. I 'm gambling on some leeway here))
[18:56] <+Nevka_Bingham> ((And a job is needed))
[18:56] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((Well, we have some berth, no?))
[18:56] * +SamuraiHanson takes Nevka aside for a bit, "Boss, I heard we might be going around the rift? When I was in the scouts, there were rumors about some ...rather questionable... fueling stations *in* the rift. They're as likely to take your vessel as your coin, and they're damn hard to find, but it could be done if we had some more information."
[18:57] <+Nevka_Bingham> "What kind of information do we need, Hanson?"
[18:59] <+SamuraiHanson> "Where they will be to start with. You don't want to jump blind and hope it's there and waste the fuel you do have. Also, I still have my own ship here. I need to drop it off at Dinomn, but she can take some passengers there as well."
[19:01] <+Nevka_Bingham> "How many?"
[19:02] <+SamuraiHanson> "Got room for 3, I would just need a copilot for the trip. My own managed to have a rather unfortunate case of brain fever, halfway here which is why I'm stranded 'til you came along."
[19:03] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Still probably have to set something up in the cargo hold then..."
[19:05] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> “We would need additional rations as well.”
[19:06] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Well the extra passengers are only with us for a week, so that's covered. I'm more concerned about the fuel issue."
[19:07] <@EvilNastyGM> ((20 passangers is 200k. You’re looking at 5 jumps total))
[19:10] <+Nevka_Bingham> ((six to get back from Dinomn, but yeah))
[19:11] <@EvilNastyGM> You don’t have to go back to Dinomn. So one jump to Dinomn, two to Ghandi, two back to Dinom
[19:12] <+Nevka_Bingham> ...duh. Right.
[19:17] <+Nevka_Bingham> so we need the fuel boost for the mid-range part of the jump.
[19:18] <+SamuraiHanson> "So what about it, Boss, how are we going about this?"
[19:19] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "We would need to purchase fuel and get the tanks attached a well."
[19:19] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Well, I'd prefer if we didn't get into anything with a good risk of hijacking. We need to see how much the fuel bladders cost."
[19:21] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "I would need to arrange for living quarters in the cargo hold as well."
[19:22] <+SamuraiHanson> "I can help build some, I'm handy with tools a bit."
[19:22] * +Nevka_Bingham nods. "Some kind of camping hab blocks maybe?"
[19:23] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "We'd have to expect those passengers are not nobles or other high and mightys, as they'd demandprivacy rather than some sort of common room."
[19:24] <+Nevka_Bingham> "There'd be a lot more screaming for a replacement ship if they were."
[19:24] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Fair enough. We shall get to it right away."
[19:25] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Good. I'll look into external fuel tanks."
[19:27] <+SamuraiHanson> "I'll start getting on with some walls in the main cargo hold then."
[19:29] * +Thomas_J_Atkins is working with his comm, "Give me a second. Just start gathering materials for now."
[19:31] * +Thomas_J_Atkins checks a received file "As I feared; all high passage."
[19:32] * +SamuraiHanson sets to assembling some raw materials, "Right, I'll see you a bit."
[19:32] <+Nevka_Bingham> "So we can't put any of them in low berths."
[19:32] <@EvilNastyGM> ((your cargo bay is 61 tons, fuel takes up 50 for a jump))
[19:33] <+Nevka_Bingham> (ooh boy. I hope the repair parts don't take up too much space.))
[19:33] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Not unless then want it. But lacking a medical officer we may end up killing them during resuscitation."
[19:36] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((Wait, doesn't we got a fuel tank for that?))
[19:36] <+SamuraiHanson> ((for reviving them during resuscitation?))
[19:36] <+Nevka_Bingham> ((If I can't get an external tank then we'll need to use the internal bay))
[19:36] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((no, a tank for the fuel for the jump, instead of taking up cargo space))
[19:36] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((ah ok))
[19:37] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "We can always bunk them in twos, but to save space, we can bunk them in groups of fours."
[19:38] <+Nevka_Bingham> "We'll probably need to do that, and give them a discount on their fares."
[19:42] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Actually they have been reimbursed, and given a compensatory fund for the occurring troubles the misjump caused."
[19:44] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "They are expected to doubled bunk, we can always get two in each room, two in each of Samurai's vessel, and we can make it to Dinomn without taking any space."
[19:46] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "With Samurai using his own vessel, we can use his room to bunk another pair for the week."
[19:47] <+Nevka_Bingham> "Hmm. Sounds good. Good thinking."
[19:49] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Now we can focus on the fuel situation."
[19:51] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> @Samurai, stop getting things, we'd no need for any extra rooms."
[19:53] * +SamuraiHanson stands up from the accumulating pile of materials. "Ey, ok. I'll start putting them up then. Any particular order you want?"
[19:55] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Oh, just put everything back from where you took it, would you hmm?"
[19:56] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "You'd also need to clear your quarters for the trip to Dinomn, as you'll be using your own vessel I'm told."
[19:57] <+SamuraiHanson> "You suppose you can take Caleb to the galley for a bit? He might notice me putting the wall panels back in his quarters
[19:57] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Hm? M'yes of course."
[19:57] * +Nevka_Bingham frowns. "Yes...we might notice that."
[19:59] * +Thomas_J_Atkins check on/distract Caleb while Samurai gets everything bolted back in place.
[19:59] * +SamuraiHanson smiles a bit, "Just kidding, I'll get these put away, but I will need someone to keep an eye on things aboard my own ship during off hours."
[20:00] * +SamuraiHanson starts ferrying things back where they came from with only a bit more cursing than when the pile was getting bigger.
[20:01] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((Wait I just thought of something- if Sam is using is own ship, who will pilot this ship?))
[20:02] <+Nevka_Bingham> ((I jave Jack of All Trades 2. I can do it, just not as well as a pilot))
[20:02] <+SamuraiHanson> ((that'll do, this would be a pretty basic trip i would imagine))
[20:04] <@EvilNastyGM> what your jot?
[20:04] <+SamuraiHanson> ((failing that, we could try to slave my ship to the lucky strike, essentially flying my ship by remote))
[20:06] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((I see the multiple ways this could go wrong))
[20:06] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((Let's do that!))
[20:08] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((but yeah, it's only a single jump))
[20:12] <+SamuraiHanson> A brief surge of insight reveals that the Scout Operating System on his ship's computers would not allow tethering to a non-Scout vessel (and it would look bad to the passengers).
[20:13] <+SamuraiHanson> So it looks like I'm flying it by hand, this time. Just need a copilot/navigator to keep an eye on things during the second shift.))
[20:13] <+Nevka_Bingham> "So either I take controls..or I look into getting a temporary pilot."
[20:14] <+Nevka_Bingham> ((meh, nothing to keep an eye on in Jumpspace))
[20:14] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((Maybe locking your consoles?))
[20:15] <+SamuraiHanson> ((more keeping an eye on the ship to make sure nothing redlines))
[20:15] <@EvilNastyGM> ((that’s true you just need someone capable of monitoring systems))
[20:19] <@EvilNastyGM> So the group has the passenger problem solved now just working on a solution to the jump capabilities and of you need a 2nd pilot or not))
