Session 13 – Spirits In the Material World

[17:17] <@ENGM> Last session the group started to explore the corridors of the Ecliptic. You searched a few staterooms finding the remains of former passengers and their possessions. The passengers were all in various states of death but all bore the same frozen horrific expression that the others in séance room had....
[17:19] <@ENGM> Heading thru one of the ships iris hatches you came into a second corridor where you were attacked by a blood like blob. Both Sam and Nevka were nearly overcome by the monster but with some quick thinking and luck, you managed to find a way to defeat it by tripping the ships fire suppression system....
[17:20] <@ENGM> You are now licking your wounds. Sam looks like a castaway in his decayed vacc suit the blobs acidic juices eating away and dissolving parts of it from his feet to his waist. Nevka also lost her suit to her knees. Both are non-functional now.
[17:20] <@ENGM> Questions?
[17:21] <+DirkVonTowers> The way to the bridge is still down the hall, to the lounge, and through that?
[17:21] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((Just to confirm, one section then we're at the lounge 'crossroad'?))

[17:23] <@ENGM> Yes from looking at schematics on a stateroom computer you can see the corridor has three sections. The séance room was in the aft of the ship, you are now in the middle corridor on the port side of the vessel. There is another iris valve that Sebastian jumped to when the blob attacked that ends the corridor at the fore of the ship....
[17:24] <@ENGM> From there you saw the lounge in the front of the ship and a door marked bridge but the computers security did not allow you to see the actual layout of the bridge or any of the ships essential function areas.
[17:27] <@ENGM> Thomas from what you saw of the layout, the ships staterooms line both the port and starboard wings of the ship. The bridge, engineering, etc. are all in the middle. The lounge is in the fore of the ship.

[17:28] <@ENGM> You are all cleaning yourselves up after the attack. Sam is feeling a little worse for wear and needs new clothes. Nevka could also use a new Vacc suit but she is at least clothed to the knees.
[17:29] <@ENGM> You are still in the middle section of the corridor on the port side. The blob is gone now just a deep crimson stain on the floor.
[17:29] * +DirkVonTowers looks over Sam. "I'm sure you can find something in one of the cabins..."
[17:29] <Sam> "Just a pair of pants would be nice."
[17:29] <@ENGM> ((The last cabin you looked in had a dead woman in it))
[17:30] * +Thomas_J_Atkins clears his throat "Ahem. Perhaps we should be careful about opening doors. There must be some vacsuit in the lounge or bridge."
[17:30] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Or see if we can activate the fire systems before opening anything first."
[17:30] <@ENGM> There is still one state room in the section you haven’t checked, actually two. There were three doors in this section, you opened one. The second door the blob blocked. All the doors are now closed.
[17:32] * +DirkVonTowers motions to the door. "Do we dare risk it?"
[17:32] <+Nevka> "How much choice do we have?"
[17:33] <+DirkVonTowers> "Quite a lot so far."
[17:33] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Let's use the pad at the end of the section at least, in case another blob burst out."
[17:34] <+Nevka> "Workable."
[17:36] <@ENGM> The corridor is about 27m long with a iris hatch at the end of each end. There are doors on the port side at the 6m, 15m and 18m marks.
[17:36] * +DirkVonTowers nods and makes his way to the furthest pad to trigger the door.
[17:37] <+Sebastian`> "It should be functional. i was working on it while the blob accosted us."
[17:37] Sam follows the group looking for extra clothes.
[17:38] * +Thomas_J_Atkins moves on first, being careful not to be too close of the doors.
[17:39] <@ENGM> ((so to the end of the corridor?))
[17:40] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((Yes))
[17:40] * +Sebastian` will cycle the door at the end of the corridor if no one else will.
[17:40] * +DirkVonTowers waits till everyone is well out of the way, checks to make sure he'll be able to close the door quickly if something comes out of the room..or Seb can.
[17:40] * +Thomas_J_Atkins waits past the last door and brings up the rear.
[17:40] <@ENGM> ((So Dirk is at a stateroom door?))
[17:41] <+DirkVonTowers> ((no, at the end of the corridor, sorry))
[17:42] <@ENGM> The hatch is open revealing the forward corridor. It is dimly lit like the others you've been in so far.
[17:42] * +Sebastian` will step through
[17:43] Sam hangs in the back.
[17:44] * +DirkVonTowers looks to see if there's any way to increase the illumination.
[17:48] <@ENGM> Dirk fiddles with the door pad and accesses the controls for the lighting for the ship. In a few seconds the emergency lighting is replaced with regular lighting as it gradually gets brighter as if someone just increased the dimmer to max.
[17:48] * +DirkVonTowers peers around. "There, that should help some."
[17:49] <@ENGM> You also hear the whine of machinery as the rest of the ships systems come out of slumber. The ship is now AWAKE!
[17:49] <+DirkVonTowers> "Oh, that's unexpected somewhat."
[17:50] <@ENGM> It also starts to gradually get a little warmer.
[17:50] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "You are more capable with computers than you even thought?"
[17:51] <@ENGM> ((and Sam and Nevka are really the only ones to notice since the rest of you are still in vacc suits))
[17:51] * +DirkVonTowers tries to see if he's done anything particularly bad for them.
[17:51] Sam takes a breath. The air starts to freshen up.
[17:52] <@ENGM> Dirk, as far as you can tell, all systems to be functioning normally now.
[17:53] * +Sebastian` pokes his head back in the middle corridor. "Are we ready to proceed?"
[17:53] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "A fortunate turn of events. for now"
[17:53] <+DirkVonTowers> "It seems everything is functioning fine right now."
[17:54] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Let us proceed then. Cautiously now."
[17:54] * +Sebastian` ducks back in the forward section.
[17:54] Sam will follow bringing up the rear.
[17:55] * +Thomas_J_Atkins goes through into the Forward section.
[17:59] <@ENGM> You all enter the forward section. The corridor is now brightly lit. It runs well over 30m long. For now you can see doors on the port side at 6m, 12m and 21m. Beyond that you think there are more but aren’t sure.
[18:00] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Let us try not to walk into the door's operating sensor."
[18:01] * +DirkVonTowers shuffles to the other side of the corridor.
[18:01] <@ENGM> ((to the end?))
[18:03] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((Yes; or do we risk getting pants for Sam?))
[18:03] <+DirkVonTowers> ((no, just the other wall, so he doesn't trip any door sensor accidentally))
[18:04] <@ENGM> Dirk heads to the end of the corridor. It's roughly 35-40m in length all told, there is another stateroom door at about 30m and another at the end of the corridor. An iris valve is on the starboard side of the end of the corridor as well.
[18:06] * +Sebastian` will makes his way slowly to the end following Dirk
[18:07] * +Thomas_J_Atkins follows after Sebastian.
[18:07] * +DirkVonTowers looks for a pad so he can check to see if he can access something like sensors so he can check for life signs or more blood.
[18:08] <@ENGM> There’s a pad outside of each door. the pads outside the staterooms are rather simple. the access pad by the iris hatch is similar to the one you just hacked
[18:09] * +DirkVonTowers goes with the iris pad.
[18:10] <@ENGM> You have no trouble getting back in but you aren’t able to find anything like sensors.
[18:11] <@ENGM> You do find life support but you’re locked out.
[18:11] <+DirkVonTowers> "I can't tell if anything is behind any of the doors, so we may want to just make it to the bridge first."
[18:15] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "What of the lounge?"
[18:15] <+DirkVonTowers> ((should be just beyond the iris, right?))
[18:19] <Sam> "I still would like some pants. And if possible, shoes"
[18:20] <+DirkVonTowers> "We might have to wait until after the bridge."
[18:20] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Or the lounge at the very least, there might be a vacc suit locker."
[18:21] * +DirkVonTowers motions for the others to get ready and opens the iris door.
[18:21] <+DirkVonTowers> (( If something comes charging out, Dirk will close the iris door!))
[18:21] <Sam> "Ok, not like I have too many options"
[18:21] <@ENGM> The door cycles open. You see a large room beyond.
[18:24] * +Thomas_J_Atkins observes beyond the iris.
[18:27] <@ENGM> The area is large. It is roughly pyramid shaped (like Mayan, the type that’s stepped)) You enter at the bottom thru a 3m alcove. the base of the 'pyramid is about 30m across it tapers off 3m on each side as the room moves forward until it is only about 9m. There are chairs tables and what looks like a hotel reception desk on the starboard side.
[18:28] <@ENGM> A glass shaft dissects the top of the pyramids 9m section before the section continues forward.
[18:30] * +DirkVonTowers peers through the door, looking for anything really, really bad.
[18:30] <@ENGM> There is an iris hatch on the opposite end of the bottom of the room from where you came in. In the middle of the 'base' is another hatch.
[18:32] <@ENGM> None of you sense or see anything as you enter the large room.
[18:33] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((That's never a good sign))
[18:34] * +DirkVonTowers tries to tell which door is the correct one from the schematics he saw
[18:36] <@ENGM> You believe the bridge doors are the ones at the base of the room.
[18:36] * +DirkVonTowers points to the base doors. "I think those should lead to the bridge."
[18:36] <@ENGM> This you think is the reception area and forward leads to the lounge.
[18:37] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "An odd shape for a vessel."
[18:37] <+DirkVonTowers> "Indeed."
[18:39] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "I would suspect something horrible, but all seems calm."
[18:41] <@ENGM> The group gravitates towards the base doors. As you start to examine them, Dirk, Thomas and Sam all hear a soft hum coming from behind you.
[18:42] * +Thomas_J_Atkins turns around.
[18:43] <@ENGM> You all see a lift descending in the glass shaft from the level above. Thomas can make out the silhouette of a man inside. The lift soon comes to a stop.
[18:43] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "We got a visitor from on high.."
[18:44] * +Nevka turns.
[18:49] <@ENGM> The man steps out of the lift. From his dress he looks like some sort of clergyman. His robes are adorned in symbols representing his faith. he notices you and smiles pleasantly carrying a travelling case in one hand and a book in the other...
[18:49] * DirkVonTowers turns as well, hand on his blade.
[18:51] <@ENGM>...He starts towrds you and shifts the book extending a hand to shake. “Good dawning to thee, Children. I be Reverend Zelrin. If thou art my fellow passengers, I can see happy company on this trip." He starts towards you and shifts the book extending a hand to shake.
[18:53] * +DirkVonTowers looks over the symbols to see if he can tell which faith. "Greetings..."
[18:53] * +Thomas_J_Atkins looks as the symbols as well as the book.
[18:54] <@ENGM> Thomas you can see that the book is a brown leather tome with a golden starburst on the cover.
[18:55] <@ENGM> He was about 10' away and has closed the distance to the nearest of you still expecting a handshake.
[18:55] <@ENGM> Dirk you think he’s a member of the Church of Stellar Divinity.

[18:56] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> ((on a doomed ship no less))

[18:59] Zelrin looks at you confused and then starts to get visibly upset.
[19:00] <+DirkVonTowers> "Ah hell."
[19:00] Zelrin starts shouting. "WHAT TRICKERY IS THIS! BE GONE FOUL DEMON. REMOVE THYSELF FROM GLORY'S LIGHT AND RETURN TO THE DARKNESS WHERE YOU BELONG!"
[19:00] Zelrin tries to smack Dirk with his book and it passes right thru which incenses him even more.
[19:01] <+DirkVonTowers> "Ah, I'm no demon. Though I suppose I've been called worse..."
[19:02] <Zelrin> “BY THE GLORY OF THE IMPERIUM RETURN TO THE AETHER. DO NOT FOUL THIS SHIP" He continues to rant quoting scripture you've most likely never heard trying to banish you.
[19:03] * +DirkVonTowers sighs. "Enough of this Priest. What can you tell us about what happened here?"
[19:03] <@ENGM> After a good 15 minutes of being berated and seeing he’s having no effect on you he turns to leave screaming for the captain or the steward.
[19:04] * +Thomas_J_Atkins goes to the reception area, see if there's any working console.
[19:04] <@ENGM> (He’s having none of you dirk, just going on a tirade))
[19:04] <@ENGM> There is Thomas.
[19:04] * +Thomas_J_Atkins checks for a registry and if there's a Rev. Zelrin listed.
[19:05] <@ENGM> None that you find on this trips roster
[19:06] <+DirkVonTowers> "Thomas gets women ghosts, I get preacher..."
[19:06] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Well, there is no Rev. Zelrin listed as a guest here that I can see."

[19:31] <@ENGM> The other groups turns their attention to him.
[19:32] * +DirkVonTowers looks to see if the Preacher is doing anything new, or if he seems to be repeating himself.

[19:33] <@ENGM> Dirk, he's repeating himself but not in any pattern, he just keeps resaying the same gibberish calling you demons but in different ways. He’s doesn’t seem to be stuck in any loop.

[19:34] * +DirkVonTowers makes sure there's some easy to get cover between him and the other group. "He's a ghost."
[19:34] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Well, shake their hands and introduce yourself, Reverend."
[19:35] Zelrin advances towards the other party.

[19:36] <Zelrin> "Why. Be you demon I will send you to your proper place"
[19:36] <@ENGM> One from the other group fires his energy weapon at him.
[19:37] <@ENGM> The bolt flies wide of Zelrin ricocheting off the far wall leaving a scorch mark.
[19:37] * +DirkVonTowers ducks. "Hey!"
[19:38] Zelrin swings back with his book at VS1, "Begone foul being"
[19:38] <@ENGM> It passes thru VS1.
[19:39] Zelrin goes on another loud demon denouncing tirade before stomping off again looking for the captain or steward.
[19:40] VS1 looks at Nevka “ Ok so what the hell is going on?"
[19:40] <+DirkVonTowers> "We don't really know. We were going to the bridge to find out."
[19:41] <@ENGM> <VS1> "Where is the bridge? We've only found staterooms"
[19:42] * @VS1 approaches Nevka.
[19:42] * @VS1 stands right in front of her still armed. He attempts to wave a hand at her and touch her.
[19:42] * +DirkVonTowers motions to the doors. "Through one of those."
[19:43] * @VS1 hand waves right thru Nevka.
[19:43] <@VS1> "Ok so now we've established our weapons most likely won't affect each other. Now what?"
[19:44] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "We were going for the bridge, as we all came here due to an automated transmission."
[19:44] <@VS1> "We followed a transmission too"
[19:44] * +Thomas_J_Atkins looks at the Group "I assume you arrived here via some sort of...fog bank?"
[19:45] <+DirkVonTowers> "What transmission? And great. You're ghosts too."
[19:47] <@VS1> No, just opened a door on our ship while in jump and somehow we were on another ship."
[19:48] <+Sebastian`> "You said you are from the Wolvesbane. Compan affiliated or independent?"

[19:51] * +Thomas_J_Atkins checks on the computer for information on a vacc suit locker near-by; or check for any working suit/overalls.
[19:51] <@VS1> Zelrin rants for a few more minutes, then exits the starboard iris hatch
[19:54] <ENGM> There’s no equipment lockers available in the passenger areas. The rest of the info is classified.
[19:54] * +DirkVonTowers looks around for any emergency units?
[19:55] <ENGM> You figure any emergency suits would be in stateroom lockers.
[19:55] <+DirkVonTowers> "We may have to try a stateroom after all, though the Bridge might have some. Shall we move on?"
[19:55] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "AS for that door..can you go back and forth from your ship to here?"
[19:56] <@VS1> "If we're in 1092 and you're in 1106, how does this work. We've claimed the ship for our enterprise; does this mean something has happened to us?
[19:56] <@VS1> "Yes we could"
[19:57] <+Nevka> "Well, we never heard of this ship being recovered."
[19:57] <@VS1> "Because something did if its 1106 and were not in possession of the ship"
[19:59] <+Sebastian`> "As of 1106 The Ecliptic has never been found, so if you boarded it in 1092 then something happened. It could be as simple as you just abandoning it or something far more sinister."
[19:59] * @VS1 nods. "So you were heading to the bridge?"
[19:59] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Yes, we were."
[20:00] <+DirkVonTowers> "Seems like the best bet."
[20:00] <@VS1> "Well we're looking for it as well. I propose a truce until we can figure out if either of us can claim this ship."
[20:00] <+DirkVonTowers> "Can you touch things here?"
[20:00] <@VS1> "We can in our time. But obviously not in others"
[20:01] <@VS1> "Other than not being able to touch you everything seems normal."
[20:03] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "Let us proceed to the bridge then. Let us be weary of doors, 'least you'd like to explore pantless as well.."
[20:04] * +DirkVonTowers nods. "We ran into some sort of creature earlier."
[20:04] * +DirkVonTowers starts heading towards the door that leads to the bridge.
[20:04] <@VS1> "Creature?"
[20:04] <+DirkVonTowers> "Large puddle of blood."
[20:04] * +DirkVonTowers motions to the tattered clothing. "Acidic."
[20:04] <@VS1> "This place gets stranger by the minute"
[20:05] <@VS1> "So pantless"
[20:05] <+Thomas_J_Atkins> "A good thing for vacc suit eh?"
[20:05] <+DirkVonTowers> "Well, better than opening another door and finding another pool of blood."
[20:07] <@VS1> "So have you tried the bridge doors yet?'
[20:08] <+DirkVonTowers> "We just got to the lounge when we ran into the preacher."

[20:08] * +DirkVonTowers makes his way to the doors.
[20:09] <@ENGM> There’s an access pad to the left side of the doors.
[20:10] * +Thomas_J_Atkins gets off the side of the door, and not directly in front.
[20:10] * +DirkVonTowers looks over the keypad and attempts to open the doors.
[20:11] <@ENGM> Dirk manages to bypass the lock the doors slide open.
[20:12] * +DirkVonTowers keeps his hand on the controls, just in case something comes flowing out.
[20:13] <@ENGM> The doors hiss open, revealing the bridge or the entry hall to. The entry is a 6m x 3m hall then empties into the bridge.
[20:14] * @VS1 extends an arm. "After you."
[20:15] * +DirkVonTowers checks out the hallway for anything unexpected first.
[20:17] <@ENGM> One by one you all enter the bridges entryway.
[20:17] * +DirkVonTowers moves cautiously, hand on his blade.
[20:18] <@VS1> From the lounge side nothing seems amiss but once on the other side you all notice that each of the other crew, even though they seemed to enter from that side, are missing on the bridge side....
